John Charles, Community Development Manager
John grew up in Hackney and for the best part of his teenage and early adult years was involved in substance misuse and its corresponding problems. John started working for YourStory in January 2006, initially as a volunteer on the YourSchools Re-engagement Programme. John now runs the Mentor Scheme, working with individuals who are being supervised in the community by the Probation Service.
Working for YourStory has helped John to build on the significant lifestyle changes he had already made. John’s background means he can relate directly to many of the individuals who participate in the YourStory programmes, which proves invaluable.
Before John came to work for YourStory he was in a job that he did not enjoy and felt he didn’t have much purpose. Now he looks forward to going to work, enjoying the challenge and the variety that working for YourStory brings.
