Prison! Me! No Way! Programme
This programme introduces young people to the realities of life as an offender. Structured personal development sessions based around the Prison Me No Way crime reduction model help young people to understand and acknowledge the impact of crime, social exclusion and the widespread, lasting effects on individuals and communities.
Emphasing the negative way of life of the offender encourages young people to strengthen their independence. We help them to develop personalised frameworks that will enable them to stay away from criminal activities and the associated way of life. We also deconstruct the perceived merits of a criminal life style and work to enhance pride in the community.
The Prison Me No Way Programme delivered by YourStory is tailored around quality groupwork sessions, which involve the discussion and assessment of values. The programme is aimed at initiating self-awareness, stimulating thought processes regarding the lure of crime, its results, benefits and negative impacts. The programme is a relaxed, yet intensive form of interaction, which focuses young people on the realities facing them individually and their community.
The staff team is dynamic and driven, and works from the perspective that everybody has the right to be valued and can contribute to the community. 65% of the staff team has been through similar volunteering or mentoring processes. Having first hand experience provides YourStory staff with an understanding, patience, commitment and tenacity about achieving goals, which distinguishes YourStory from other organisations in the sector, creating its unique personality and high success rates.
We believe it's important for the programme to be client-led. This increases the individual's motivation and leads to greater responsibility and focus. The participants on this programme, help to develop future policy in regard to YourStory and its delivery.
