YourOutreach
YourStory was approached by the Colombo Centre two years ago to develop an outreach programme that would engage 14 to 25 year old males in the local community who needed to positively occupy their time.
We developed a two-hour free football coaching session on Thursday nights from 7.30-9.30pm in the local area and within two weeks engaged with 15 to 20 young people on a weekly basis.
We have delivered a number of programmes attached to this Thursday night programme and the young people have covered issues such as drug awareness, stop and search, crime prevention, career development and aspects of the Prison! Me! No Way! Programme, which has a mentoring programme adjoined to it funded by Capital Community Foundation.
We now have 40 young people attending the football sessions each week. Some have gone on to play for the YourStory football team, a number have been supported to play for other teams and others just turn up to play with their mates and enjoy the evening.
