The YourSchools Re-engagement Programme in partnership with Southwark Guarantee works with 14-16 year olds who are not engaging with the schools system. This programme started as a pilot in April 2006 working with Walworth School and now we working with Academy@Peckham, Peckham ESC, Sacred Heart RC, St Thomas Apostle and Walworth School.
Work has consisted of group sessions tackling issues such as boundaries, values, morals, teamwork, leadership and communication skills.
A number of young people have also worked on their Sports Leaders Award qualification which involves learning how to be a leader in a confident and safe manner. The young people have an opportunity to deliver their new skills back into the community by helping to run sports programmes in local youth centres and at one of our YourStory after-school clubs.
Every individual participating in the programme is taken through an action plan every fortnight on a one-to-one basis, assisted by an experienced worker who employs life coaching techniques to find out what the young person is going to do when they leave school.
We work on the principle of having a plan A and a plan B for every student and they each have to follow through their weekly goals with their key worker.
In every practical session and workshop the students go through the process of Plan, Do and Review.
